New OCBC Ignite Initiative to Boost Polytechnic Graduates in Banking Careers

OCBC has launched OCBC Ignite, an accelerated banking profession programme geared toward benefiting 500 polytechnic college students over the following three years.

This initiative, developed in collaboration with all 5 polytechnics in Singapore, seeks to reinforce the employment prospects of polytechnic graduates within the monetary sector.

OCBC Ignite goals to double the financial institution’s annual consumption of recent polytechnic graduates.

This programme helps the federal government’s Polytechnic Expertise for Finance Scheme, launched final 12 months to extend the variety of polytechnic graduates securing full-time everlasting jobs within the monetary sector by over 80 p.c, concentrating on a minimum of 300 by 2025.

The scheme is managed by the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF). A 2021 survey revealed that solely 3% of polytechnic graduates entered full-time everlasting roles within the monetary sector upon commencement.

OCBC Ignite expands on the financial institution’s present 12-month tech internship programme with Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic, which has seen over 70 college students full up to now.

The brand new programme presents an accelerated profession pathway, together with an internship throughout their remaining 12 months and a structured full-time apprenticeship post-graduation.

OCBC Ignite presents two pathways: Tech or Enterprise, each together with an internship throughout the remaining 12 months of their diploma to equip college students with industry-relevant expertise.

For the tech pathway, the internship period is 12 months adopted by a 6-month apprenticeship, getting ready college students for roles similar to full-stack developer, information scientist, and cellular developer.

The enterprise pathway features a 6-month internship and a 12-month apprenticeship, resulting in roles like customer support government, anti-money laundering compliance officer, and digital ambassador.

After finishing the 18-month growth journey, individuals shall be appointed to the rank of Assistant Supervisor, a place usually given to recent college graduates.

Chosen college students will be part of OCBC full-time for additional coaching and mentoring in areas similar to shopper banking, wholesale banking, and expertise and operations.
